about...
A Lonely Crowd is a four-piece progressive experimental band formed in 2008 by brothers Luke and Scott Ancell. Raised on a healthy diet of 70's prog, the Ancell brothers created their own unique blend of music, drawing from such diverse bands as King Crimson, Mr. Bungle, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and The Dillinger Escape Plan.
When bassist/keyboardist David Morkunas joined, it all started to take shape.
The strong instrumentation, unique acrobatic female vocals (sung by Xen Pow), unusual arrangements and catchy hooks help A Lonely Crowd thrill both audiences and fellow musicians. They have shared stages with well-known Aussie bands such as Cog and Mammal, and have played festivals such as Rock the Bay (2011) and Progfest (2011) in Melbourne.
After three years of performing in and around Melbourne, A Lonely Crowd launched their highly anticipated debut album User Hostile in June 2011 at a sold out show at The Evelyn Hotel in Melbourne, and are currently working on their second album. Excited to unleash the fruits of their hard work on people everywhere, the groundswell of support for this local band is getting stronger all the time. Always guaranteed to put on a rockin' show whenever they play, the members of A Lonely Crowd follow a very simple philosophy: let the music speak for itself.
